  • 1 Dr Anwah Nagia, (Executive Chairman)

    Dr Anwah Nagia is one of Cape Town’s foremost anti-Apartheid social activists.

    In 2004 he received an Honourary Doctorate in recognition for his work involving the community, and in 2005 the Minister of Finance appointed him as Director of the Financial Service Board (Directorate of Market Abuse) with particular responsibility for market abuse on the JSE.

    It was also in 2005 that Anwah co-founded Altius with Robert Lowe.

  • 2 Robert Lowe, (Chief Executive Officer)

    Born and educated in Zimbabwe, Rob studied law at the University of London from which he graduated with an LL.B degree, later completing an Honours degree at UCR. After graduation, he worked in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in Zimbabwe, and was later admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court. In private practise, Rob specialised in the privatisation of state assets, and in corporate finance.

    Rob settled in South Africa in 2000, and co-founded Altius with Anwah Nagia in 2005. He currently holds the position of Chief Executive Officer of Altius, serves on the Boards of all Altius Group companies and is the Chairman of Sustainable Seas Trust, a pan-African trust involving nine countries, promoting the sustainability of the western Indian Ocean.

  • 3 Papi Molotsane, (Executive Director)

    Papi was born and educated in Pretoria, and completed his tertiary education in the USA at the universities of Toledo and Stanford.

    After graduation, Papi pursued a career in commerce. Most recently, he was Chief Executive Officer of Fedics (1999 – 2003), Group Executive Officer of Transnet (2003 – 2005), and Chief Executive Officer of Telkom (2005 – 2007).

    Papi now holds the following positions:

  • 4 John Holmes, (Chief Operating Officer)

    John was born and educated in Cape Town. John studied Electrical Engineering (L/C) at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (formerly Cape Technikon) and is the founding partner of Holbert Systems Solutions and Bloodhound Technologies.

    John was appointed the Chief Operations Officer of Altius in 2009, the CEO of GrahamTek NuWater in 2010 and a Director of NuWater Limited in 2011.

  • 5 Graham Muir, (Chief Financial Officer)

    Graham is from Zimbabwe. After graduating with a B.Comm degree from UCT, Graham undertook articles with Ernst & Young, eventually heading up their computer audit division. Graham is the Chief Financial Officer of Cape Town Market, ACG, GrahamTek NuWater and Altius.

  • 6 Omar Moola, (Executive Director)

    Omar obtained a B.Com degree in 1977, with majors in Accounting and Economics, followed by a post-graduate Diploma in Accounting in 1979.

    After serving articles at Ernst & Young in Pietermaritzburg, Omar co-founded the accounting firm, Moola & Vawda, specialising in property development, small business promotion, private equity, and BEE.

    Omar is the Company Secretary to all Altius Group companies.

  • 7 Faieza Desai (Non Executive Director)

    A graduate of Peninsula Technikon, Mrs Desai has a B.Tech. degree in Occupational Nursing. She also holds a Masters degree in Public Health from the University of the Western Cape.

    Faieza has spent a lifetime in community healthcare, and currently manages an occupational health programme for 2 500 employees of the City of Cape Town.

    She is a keen sportswoman and lover of the outdoors.

  • 8 Shahied Jacobs, (Non Executive Director)

    Shahied was born and educated in Cape Town. He is a successful businessman and major shareholder in MSJ Electrical, a substantial sub-contractor to parastatals such as Eskom.

    Shahied is a leading member of the Muslim community and passionate sponsor of youth in sport in and around the Western Cape

    Shahied was appointed a Director of Altius in 2005 and a Director of Altius NuWater in 2010.

  • 9 Mr Lulamile Xate, (Non Executive Director)

    Lulamile’s medical degree at the University of Natal was disrupted by his arrest and imprisonment on Robben Island, where he completed his BComp degree through UNISA.

    After completing his articles at Price Waterhouse he ran a consulting firm specialising in SMME development strategy, renewable energy and sustainable business strategies.

    Lulamile is the founder and CEO of Wild Orchard Investments, the CEO of Wild Peach, Chairman of MTO Forestry, and holds directorships at the Darlipp wind farm, Element Investment Managers and Basani Marine.

    He was previously the ANC treasurer in the Western Cape and an advisor on renewable energy to the Minister of Minerals and Energy.

  • 10 Dr Mike Ellis-Smith, (Independent Non Executive Director)

    After graduating with a Masters degree from the University of Cape Town, Mike spent the next ten years in three industries – manufacturing, mining and retail.

    Having obtained his MBA degree part-time at Stellenbosch University Business School in 1984, Mike escaped corporate life to start his own business, and for the next twenty-seven years he consulted to national and international companies around the world. During this time, he also managed to complete his PhD in Business Administration, graduating in London in 1991.
     
    By 1999, he and his partners had built their organisation into a multi-million Rand business, and that year he sold the company to a listed entity on the JSE.

    After completing the contractual obligations associated with the sale of his company in 2004, he then established a new business, Amecus, of which he is the CEO.
     
    Mike has been closely associated with Altius since 2005. As an external director, he fulfils a roving mandate, working with the CEO’s of the Altius family of operating companies, assisting in their efficiency and good governance.
